2019 Emmy Awards Nominations – GOT’s Winter Wonderland

The 2019 Emmy Award nominations were announced this week, a show that could also be called the Game of Thrones Invitational as the HBO drama series lead all programs with 32 nominations. GOT helped boost HBO to the top of the nominations total for a network with 137 but the big surprise was how quickly Netflix’s original programming has become relevant as the upstart division of the worldwide juggernaut in streaming now is a major content player as well. Netflix tallied 117 nominations in total with NBC being the only one of the “original 3” being relevant with 58 nominations. However, if the Emmy’s needed something to be a catalyst to jumpstart ratings they certainly got it this year as the GOT wave obviously isn’t over yet.

To illustrate the dominating year GOT had, the record for Emmy nominations has stood for 25 years as NYPD Blue topped the charts with 26 nominations back in 1994. Although the boost was more than substantial (increase of 29 nominations for the network) HBO had also topped the charts last year with 108 total nominations. Netflix held on to its number 2 spot this year by increasing their total to 117 (up 5 from last year) and once again NBC was third last year as well with 78. The drop of 20 nominations is seen by many of a continuance of the trend, or tidal wave depending on you position, of the streaming content providers deciding to invest in completing their own libraries. Perhaps we’re guilty of burying the lede, as Amazon Prime Video made the biggest jump behind HBO with an increase in 25 nominations bringing their total to 47 more than CBS, Fox, and ABC. If this is a harbinger of things to come, Amazon may be soon dominating another aspect of the day-to-day lives of people around the world.

But we’ll save those stories for later, for now here are all of the 2019 Emmy nominations……
